This 5 ton giant floral sculpture - as large as a double-decker bus and containing thousands of flowering plants - was originally commissioned as the centre-piece to the Town of Flowers Festival.

The Maidstone Sheep, originally built for one season, was to return for several more summers, re-planted with a different combination of flowering plants and sited at various locations within the town.

The Sheep attracted enormous local, national and international publicity; poems have been written to it, wedding photos were regularly taken in front of it, and local businesses organised 'Sheep and Shop' tours for people who live in the outlying villages.
