The introduction of a new building for the lower school, designed by architects Walters & Cohen, gave an opportunity to rethink the play spaces around this area as well as capitalise on new spaces opened up by the new building.
In the infants playground we proposed: new surfacing, replacing the climbing equipment, extending the classrooms outside with a canopy, a new storage solution that doubles as furniture, a new sand pit as a positive focal point, a new performance stage and the renewal of hall steps and handrails.
New decked area - additional space alongside the new building would allow for a multi-level quieter play space.
Farm - this much-loved school asset needed to be moved to allow for the new building. We managed to move it slightly but retain it's basic form, while at the same time allowing for some much-needed upgrades and renewal, including: a water supply and rill/pond, landscaping elements, a new fence, storage, new animal enclosures and a planting area. For the adjacent field edge we suggested additional landscaping elements such as hillocks and boulders to buffer the farm from sports activities.
