At Robert Blair School we introduced a raised curving terrace that linked the classrooms to the playground. This provides a sheltered outdoor learning space and facilitates storage underneath. At one end, a stepped wooden bridge leads on to a raised deck, which both enlarges the available play space and creates a cosy den area below it. The top of the deck and the space beneath are linked by talk tubes and clear glass disks that allow light through.

The effect has been to greatly improve a narrow and windswept playground.
